Ed Vegas Profile

We were sad to learn that Ed Vegas a long time player with the club passed away on October 17th, 2025 at age 71.

In reviewing his time with the club we find that he played with us from 1987 until the present time. His first tournament win was at Lone Tree GC in 1988. He won his first long drive at Lone Tree in 1987.

In major tournament play he won the 1992 Winners Tournament at Kennedy GC and the 1993 Pyramid Tournament over Larry Campbell and Rollin Podwys. In 2000 he and Don Scribner finished runner-up in the Winners Tournament at Franklin Canyon GC.

He played in the Pyramid Tournament 9 times from 1992 until 2005. He was runner-up to Mike Cook in the finals in 1992. He won the 1993 tournament.

Other achievements Ed attained were; in 1988 he finished 3rd in the Scoring Championship for the year and 3rd in the Winners Tournament, he shot a net 61 at Lone Tree and a net 62 at Tilden GC. In 1993 he tied for the most CP’s for the year. In 1994 he teamed with Steve Blotzer to win the best-ball tournament at Rancho Solano GC and made an eagle 3 on the par 5 14th hole, he finished third in the Winners Tournament also taking a LD & CP. In 1995 he won the Tom Stead tournament with partners Steve Blotzer, Floyd Duggins and Dan Riley and went on to win the best-ball tournament at Chimney Rock GC with partner Floyd Duggins. In 1996 he won the Delta View tournament shooting a net 62 and won a LD, he teamed with Kevin Peck, Dan Riley and Gary Villeneuve to win the Revenge @ Kennedy tournament. In 1997 he took third place at the Chimney Rock tournament. In 1998 he won the best-ball tournament at Blue Rock west with partner Kevin Peck, Ed drove the 257 yard 4th hole, missed the eagle but made a birdie for a net eagle, he finished 2nd in the Bethel Island tournament also winning a LD. In 1999 he and partner Floyd Duggins finished third in the best-ball tournament at Mountain Shadows – North GC. In 2000 Ed won the Bethel Island tournament and ended the year as the runner-up for the Scoring Championship for the year. In 2001 Ed teamed up with Nemon Williamson to win the best-ball tournament at Wildhorse GC. Ed went on to finish second in the Bethel Island tournament also winning a LD. In 2003 AJ Jones joined Ed to win the best-ball tournament held at Wildhorse GC. In 2018 Ed was runner-up for the most improved handicap for the year.

His final stats; 11 tournament wins, 40 top 3 finishes, 162.0 tournament points, 2 major tournament wins, 73.95 net scoring average, 4 CP’s, 15 LD’s, 2 eagles, 20 birdies and 12 pyramid match wins.

For the last three years Ed set up Rio Vista GC as the home for the Memorial Tournament honoring Tom Stead and later Bob Simonson. This tournament was a fund raiser for the American Heart Assoc. and due mainly to Ed’s help we raised $ 1540.00 for our contribution. I’ll remember Ed as a great guy, a tough competitor and as a person who would always help you out when you needed it. We will miss him. Mike Cook
