The club was sad to learn that long time member Larry Campbell passed away June 21st, 2026. Larry played with us from 1982 to 2025. His first tournament win was at Kennedy GC in 1982, followed up later that year by a third place finish at Tilden GC. In 1985 he won his first CP at Boundary Oak GC on the 12th hole.
He loved playing in team events, he was on the winning Tom Stead tournament teams in 1990, 1997, 2000, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2016. He was also on the winning teams at the Revenge at Kennedy tournaments in 1995 and 2004, the record setting low score in 1995. Larry teamed with Mike Cook to win the Best-Ball tournaments in 1987, 1988, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2013 and 2015, also 2nd place finishes in 1994, 1999 and 2004.
In major tournament play Larry won the 1985 Winners Tournament, he was also runner-up in the 1986 tournament. He won the 2003 Pyramid Tournament, was the runner-up in 1993 and third in 1989 and 1994, he won the 2005 Club Championship and was the runner-up in the Low Gross Club Championship in 2007. In the Valero Cup Tournaments he finished second in 1993 and 2011.
Larry’s Career Stats; 22 tournament wins, 63 top 3’s, 274.5 tournament points, 73.16 net scoring average, 20 CP’s, 1 LD, 65 Birdies, 1 Eagle, 18 Pyramid match wins. Player of the Year runner-up in 1993, Scoring Champion runner-up in 2005 and 2014. Most Tournament Birdies in 2005. Third in the golf clubs’s career scoring average, 6th in the career birdies made, 6th in career CP’s won.
Larry and I played many times together, against each other and with each other in Best-Ball Tournaments. I can’t tell you how many times when we really really needed to pull something off Larry would come through, what a partner to have. I will remember those times and what a great guy he was, Mike Cook
